The MOA Ghillie Suit is a one piece long jacket ghillie suit.  It is built on 3/4″ netting.  What sets this ghillie suit apart from the others is that the material attached to the netting is made of wide strips of polyester/nylon camouflage fabric.  This suit looks like a cross between the Jackal and the Chameleon ghillie suit.

This ghillie suit is shorter than most one piece ghillie suits.  It cover right down to your lower calf.  At this length it does not impede movement as much as the other ghillie suits which had jute hanging to the ground.  However, with the shorter coverage, your boots will be exposed.  Like the Jackal ghillie suit, this suit is somewhat “sticker” and “leaves” resistant as the material doesn’t pick up everything you walk by.

While it’s not for everyone, this is a decent suit with good coverage and camo abilities.  It is also a little less expensive that most and great for Halloween!

The ghillie flage suit is a one piece full ghillie suit made from 1″ netting.  This suit is made of natural jute and is a one piece suit.  It has no front openings so you put it on as you would put on a poncho.  This suit comes with a substantial amount of natural jute so it is fairly heavy.   The jute is knotted directly onto the netting.

Use

The one piece design makes it a little more difficult to move around in.  Because it is essentially a long coat you may have to hike up the bottom of it to run or even walk.  Because it drapes down to your toes, it is not a good suit for crawling or moving while crouched.  However, because of its bulk and material, the ghillie flage suit offers the great camouflage ability.

The netting is not very comfortable when draped directly on the skin or a t-shirt.  We suggest that this suit be worn over a sweatshirt at a minimum.

Sizes

The ghille flage comes in two sizes, M/L and XL/XXL.  The M/L fits people who are 6′0″ and under, while the XL/XXL is for anyone taller than 6 ft.  If you are shorter than 6′0″ but fairly heavy, you may want to get the XL/XXL and then shorter the bottom of the suit.

Rating

When it comes to ghillie suits, 1 piece vs 2 pieces is a personal preference.  If you opt to go with a one piece suit and want natural jute, the ghillie flage suit is the one to get for maximum coverage.

The kids ghillie suit is made by Swiss Link.  The kids ghillie suit is a 4 piece suit.  It consists of a ghillie hood, ghillie jacket, ghillie pants and a ghillie rifle wrap.  It comes in our size and fits kids from ages 8-14.  This suit is a very popular Halloween costume.

Jacket & Pants

The jacket and pants are made out of a 1″ square netting.  It is basically a sweater and pants made from netting.  Synthetic thread is tied to the netting to make the base of the ghillie suit.  The hood is a completely separate piece and also made of netting with synthetic thread tied to it.

Rifle Wrap

The rifle wrap is made of an elastic band with synthetic thread tied to it.

Sizing

The kids ghillie suit can fit a wide range of sizes.  It will fit kids from ages 8 to 14, the maximum height that it fits is probably 5′8″.  Its minimum height is about 5′0″.  Because the suit is made from netting it can be easily resized.  This suit must be worn over clothing so the suit can be slightly larger.

The pants are fairly large and come with a drawstring to fit all waist sizes.  If your child is taller than 5′8″ its probably better to get an adult medium suit.

This suit is a hooded jacket and pants combination suit.  It comes in two patterns, woodland (aka. all season) and mossy and three sizes (M, L & XL).

Jacket and Pants

The inner shell of this suit consists of the softest mesh material we’ve seen for a ghillie suit.  It is truly a comfortable suit to wear.  3/4″ netting is sewn onto the mesh and synthetic threads are attached to the netting.  This suit can be worn directly over a t-shirt and the synthetic thread is so soft that you can bunch up the suit and use it as a pillow.

The jacket has drawcords around the hood and waist to cinch the suit tight.  The pants has a drawcord at the waist and ankles.  The pants also has belt loops!  This is a rarity for ghillie suits these days.

Color Patterns

The color and pattern of this suit is very different than all the other ones out there.  The woodland is very green when compared to the other suits.  The mossy pattern is unlike any other suit out there.  Where Bushrag mossy is green/black, the mossy on this suit is more black,tan and olive.  While it looks very odd when you open up the package.  In the field, the mossy color does work very well.

We’ve found that the stock photos of the mossy may seem misleading because it looks like an all tan suit. 

Rating

This is one of the best ghillie suits out there for the money.  It would be a toss up between this suit and the Ultralight Ghillie Suit by bushrag, but the belt loops and its extra softness make us recommend this suit over the other.

The ultra light synthetic ghillie poncho is a new offering that combines all the advantages of a synthetic ghillie suit with the advantages of a ghillie poncho.  Weighing in at 2.75 lbs, you won’t feel the burden of wearing a ghillie suit with this on.  It can be stashed in a backpack and put on very quickly.  Just toss the poncho over yourself and backpack in one motion.

Construction

The poncho is built on 3/4″ x 3/4″ netting with synthetic thread tied directly to it.  As with all ponchos, it is a pullover style poncho with an attached hood.  You have separate sleeves for each arm and the rest of the poncho flows towards the ground.

Use

It is tough to run or move fast with this poncho fully deployed due to its length.  If you attach a clip to your waist area, you can lift up the bottom of the poncho, fold it and attach it to your waist while moving.  A simple unclip and the poncho bottoms falls to the ground covering your lower portion.

This poncho is probably the lightest full body covering ghillie suit that you can get.  Match this with the synthetic rifle wrap and you’ll be ghillied up 100% wearing only 3 lbs of material.

Rating

Now that ponchos are available in synthetic, they will become the lightest ghillie suits on the market.  A shorter version may come out in the future, but for now, this is the lightest poncho out there and if you shorten it into a tracker style poncho, you can move even faster in it.

The ghillie rifle wrap compliments your ghillie suit by concealing your rifle also.  This is a natural jute rifle wrap that is made with 1″ x 1″ netting which is 6″ wide by 6 feet long.  Natural jute is tied to the netting.  To cover your rifle you simply wrap the netting around your rifle in a diagonal manner from the tip until you reach the shoulder stock.

Use

When used will a ghillie suit the wrap blends your rifle in completely with you.  The wrap can also be used to cover a bow or even a camera.

Options

There are a few other rifle covering options available.  The synthetic rifle wrap is a synthetic thread version of this same rifle wrap.  Bushrag makes a ghillie rifle kit and wrap which use an elastic band with loops instead of netting.

Rating

The ghillie rifle wrap is an essential product that completes your ghillie suit coverage objectives.  It does its job in breaking up your rifle’s shape and concealing any shiny metallic parts that may otherwise show.

The bow hunter ghillie suit is a one piece ghillie suit with bare areas along the inside arm of the bow hand and the chest area.  It is made specifically for a bow hunter to reduce the chances of the bow string becoming tangled with jute.

Long Jacket

This suit is made of natural jute and is a one piece suit.  It has no front openings so you put it on as you would put on a poncho.  It is made one the same shell as the ghillie flage and is essentially the same suit except for the removal of jute in the areas mentioned above.

Use

The bow hunter suit offers the same camouflage ability as any other suit.  The bare areas definitely help out the bow hunter.  However, there are a few issues with the suit.  Because it is a one piece suit and is essentially a long coat, some may have trouble climbing into tree stands with the suit.  The suit is also made of natural jute so it is a heavier suit than the lightweight ones.  This may make it difficult to climb upwards with it.  In addition, it will add some weight to your bow arm and some have reported slight difficulty in accuracy with it.

Options

While the bow hunter suit is a great suit, a person with a regular ghillie suit can modify theirs to become a bow hunter suit.  This article how to make a bow hunter ghillie suit explains how.  This opens up many options to the bow hunter as they can decide to go with a lighter synthetic, a two piece suit or even a chameleon bow hunter version.

Rating

We think that a bow hunter would be suited better if they purchased the Ultra Light 2 pc Ghillie Suit and modified it by simply cutting or remove the jute along the inner bow arm and chest area.  The ultra light 2 pc suit is reviewed here.

The Camosystems Jackal Ghillie Suit is unlike any of the other ghillie suits out there.  This suit does not use natural jute or synthetic thread.  Instead it used military camo netting combined with long synthetic strips.

Jacket & Pants

This suit has the highest quality jacket and pants that we’ve seen in a ghillie suit excluding the BDU ghillie suits.  The jacket and pants are made of a lightweight material.  It is not a mesh material like the other ghillie suits.  Below is a photo of the waistband, pants material and camo-netting.

The jacket is a button up jacket.  The hood is separate and is worn separately.  The sleeves have velcro enclosures to keep the leaves and dirt out when crawling.  The pants come with a drawstring and suspenders to keep them up.  This suit is very comfortable to wear.  It is also completely washable.

Camo Material

The camoflage material is made of a combination of camo netting and synthetic colored strips.  The combo of the two make for an unusual blend pattern.

Rating

This is definitely a quality suit.  The camo material different than all other ghillie suits.  If this pattern will blend with your surroundings, you can’t go wrong with the Jackal.

The Ghillie Tracker poncho is made by Ghilliesuits.com.  This is the lightest and smallest of the ghillie ponchos that they produce.  This is basically a half poncho as it only covers the upper portion of your body.  Because it provides absolutely no leg coverage, it is not very useful for lying prone in the open field.

Construction

The poncho is built on 3/4″ x 3.4″ netting.  It consists of a hood and arm sleeves and will cover you to your waist.  Due to its size and lack of material below the belt, it is a very light and very fast suit.  The suit is made of natural jute and weighs about 4.5 lbs.

Use

This poncho is great if you need to be very mobile and have no drag on your legs.  You can also roll it up and carry it in a pack and deploy when you are in position.

Rating

This is a high quality poncho.  It is the lightest and most mobile of any of the ponchos available.  If you don’t need heavy camo or leg coverage, this is a great ghillie suit for you.

The Chameleon ghillie suit is made by bushrag. This suit comes in a two different versions, a long jacket version and a jacket and pants version. Like the ultra light ghillie suit, it is important to note that the long jacket (1 pc) and the jacket and pants (2 pcs) versions are completely different.

Note: The internal construction on this suit is the exact same as the ultra light ghillie suit.

Jacket and Pants

This set is a synthetic ghillie suit that is constructed on a fine mesh shell. 3/4″ netting is attaching to the shell and synthetic jute is attached to the netting. There is a hood attached directly to the jacket. The jacket has a zippered front and has drawstrings at the collar and the waist. Using the drawstrings you can cinch the jacket tight into your body to prevent dirt or bugs from entering. The pants also come with drawstrings. There are no belt loops.

The inner mesh is somewhat comfortable but we would suggest a long sleeve t-shirt is the minimum clothing to be worn underneath it.

Long Jacket

The long jacket is a single piece pullover jacket that extends to the ground. The large difference between the long jacket and the jacket and pants is that there is no fine mesh shell underneath. The suit is completely built on 3/4″ netting. There is also no zipper at the front.

The netting is not very comfortable when draped directly on the skin or a t-shirt. We suggest that this suit be worn over a sweatshirt at a minimum.

Use

Because the long jacket drapes down to your toes, it is not a good suit for crawling or moving while crouched. The jacket and pants set is better if you intend to crawl or use low movements. Both versions are made with the same synthetic camoflage material. These suits are very light, ours measured in at 4 lbs in the XL.

Camo Material

Here is where the Chameleon suit shines and differs from any other suit out there.  The Chameleon’s camoflage ability is created using over 700 synthetic colored leaves.  When compared to other jute twine suits, this suit provides superior concealment in leafy woods or during fall where the ground is littered with leaves.

Rating

The Chameleon is in a different class due to its camo material.  If you are in alot of heavy foliaged areas, we recommend this suit.  We like the jacket and pants combination a little more than the long jacket.
